On November 22, 1999, Mary walked into Cherry Orchard Care Home on its opening day, embarking
on a journey that would shape her life for the next quarter of a century. As one of the original staff
members, she has witnessed the evolution of the care home, forming deep bonds with the residents
and becoming a trusted mentor for countless carers over the years.
Throughout her remarkable 25-year career, Mary’s dedication to supporting vulnerable residents
has been unwavering. She recalls her role as being "more than just a job, it's been a calling. It’s
always been a privilege working with vulnerable people. Their stories, their challenges, and their
resilience are inspiring. Each day has felt meaningful" she says with a smile.
Mary’s commitment to her work goes beyond the care she provides for the residents. She has taken
on the important role of mentoring new staff, passing down her wisdom and experience to ensure
that Cherry Orchard maintains its high standards of care. Many of her colleagues have remarked on
her kindness, patience, and the warmth she brings to her work.
As the oldest staff member at Cherry Orchard, Mary’s retirement marks the end of an era. However,
her legacy is one of compassion, professionalism, and dedication.
As Mary prepares for retirement, she reflects on her journey with a sense of fulfilment. “It’s been an
incredible privilege to work alongside such wonderful people and to make a positive impact on the
lives of our residents,” she says. Cherry Orchard will undoubtedly miss Mary, but her contributions
will always be remembered.
