Overview

Woodside Nursing Home offers accommodation and care for up to 37 people in two acres of private grounds, offering nursing, residential, and dementia care.

Woodside Nursing Home offers delightful views over the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire landscape. The home is divided into three floors and contains 37 residential rooms. The home was once a vicarage to St. Andrew’s Parish next door and as a result retains an enchanting character and provides a warm and homely feel.

Outside, the spacious and well-maintained garden provides the perfect place to take in some fresh air, enjoy walks or lunch al fresco style. The home benefits from being nestled in the quiet village of Slipend and within easy walking distance our residents will discover fine local countryside pubs offering hearty food and refreshing drinks for that perfect relaxing afternoon outing.

The home provides residents with a secure, familiar and homely environment including spacious accommodation, garden and social areas. Ourmost recent addition is a purpose built extension to the home which modernises the premises although thoughtfully retains its beautiful heritage.

A dedicated valued team of staff are trained and led to provide the highest standard of care, while promoting our values. We have a holistic approach to care planning and ensure that we involve those professionals and services that are required to enhance the care our residents receive.

Meet the Manager

Mihaela Sultan

With 15 years of experience as an Emergency Services Nurse in my home country and a Registered General Nurse in the UK, I have gained valuable knowledge in the healthcare industry.

When I moved to the UK, I started as a Care Assistant in a care home. It allowed me to understand the care home environment better.

Later on, I pursued more challenging roles such as Unit Manager and Deputy Manager before reaching my current position as a Care Home Manager. As a person, I believe I am fair, firm, honest, and loyal. I am proud and stubborn when it comes to my job and the care home, including the residents and staff. I am dedicated to ensuring that the needs of my residents and staff are met to provide high-quality care and a comfortable living environment for my residents.

Aside from work, I love to travel and explore new places. I also enjoy watching films, listening to music, and spending time with animals. It is an honour to lead our team and provide compassionate care to our residents.

Daily Life

Woodside has a wonderful welcoming feel as soon as you reach the front door. We focus on our moments approach and the importance of meaningful engagement; encouraging residents to participate in activities that are meaningful to them, offer reminiscence or to try new things and build relationships, we want our residents to enjoy life and maintain their independence.

We encourage support and prompt daily tasks, from making a cup of tea to pursuing hobbies and pastimes. This increases a sense of purpose, confidence, and achievement amongst our residents.

Residents look forward to our regular  visits to local places of interest; such as, theatres, shopping trips, or lunch at the local pub. Our Lifestyle facilitator creates activities that interest you and promote group involvement as well as one to one engagement. We have regular external practitioners visit the home to enhance the wellbeing of our residents.

Mealtimes are professionally catered for by our in-house kitchen team, providing a varied, hearty daily menu freshly prepared each day.  We cater for all dietary requirements as well as likes and dislikes, we recognise mealtimes are an activity and want people to really enjoy meal times. A lot of our activities are wrapped around food; world food days, fishy friday are some of our most popular meal time experiences.

The importance of culture & faith is fully recognised; therefore, strong links with different local faith groups and places of worship have been developed, with regular visits organised.
